 Certified Gemstones

We have several thousand fine quality colored gemstones for sale, many of which are unique, one of a kind or perhaps are unusual for some reason.  Very few have been certed; frequently, there is no reason.  We stand behind our gemstones and have a 100% Customer Satisfaction Guarantee (7 days) and a LIFETIME GUARANTEE - see our policies page:
Guarantee  >

Just because a gemstone in our inventory is not certed, actually has no reflection on the quality.  Some of our gemstones were purchased already with certs, or we were traveling abroad and felt more comfortable obtaining a cert.  Perhaps we were told it was unheated and we wanted to do a check upon our return from abroad (note that regardless if it were heated or not heated, we would be keeping it - heating is standard in the trade for certain gemtones, and we accept that as long as that is all that was done; there are also some purists or collectors who seek non-heated gemstones).  We have also certed a few gems because we wanted another opinion on whether a gemstone was to perhaps be called a Ruby vs. a Sapphire (Pink, Magenta, Fuschia, etc.).  Many times we purchase as Ruby and sell as Sapphire (yes, Ruby and Sapphire are the same gemstone, the mineral Corundum, it is just the percentage of red that causes the differentiation.  Europe and Asia identify Ruby as what most Americans in the business would call Sapphire.

Note: Magnification and bright lighting is required to photograph gemstones.  Some inclusions may be visible under these circumstances. You are viewing photographs as if you were using a loupe - not your naked eye.  Under normal conditions, these inclusions may not be visible.

3.59ct Yellowish Pyrope-Spessartine Garnet.  The color is a yellow with a hint of orange.  The color did not photograph well and is too golden in this photo.  However, it is a unique color, lively, well cut, clean gem!   This would most likely classify as a variety of Malaia Garnet, but with a very distince unusual color...  (egaj-11-54)  $1,077  <  View Cert  >

1.46ct Color Changing Garnet from African.  Photos are modified to show what one sees under  daylight (greenish blue or teal), fluorescent (blue) and incandescent (purple).   As in most of this particular location/gemstone, the saturation is on the deep side.  This is a certed gemstone and one can see that the lab did indeed indicate the color they saw in the gemstone, which validates the photos above.  (egaj-11-11)   $730   <  View Cert  >

This is an absolutely marvelous Natural Alexandrite from Sri Lanka, Certed and Weighing 2.07cts.  Under diffused daylight by a winow, it is a super bluish green, very reminiscent of a fine Brasilian Alexandrite.  Under incancescent, it is a very good purple.  Under the lights that we observed it under, there was no bleed through of the colors as is the norm.  It is well cut and eye clean, with only something in the back of the gem.  For the size, cutting, clarity  and color change, we really haven't seen better.  There are always issues with one of  the above criteria - but in this case, this gem has everything going for it!  (egaj-11-66)   $12,000/ct

This was one of the most difficult items to purchase in our 30+ year history of gem and rough purchasing!  We worked along with a few negotiators on this particular piece.  It took 8 days and met with the 'runner' (who represented the seller) about 5 times and in 3 different cities in Sri Lanka .  He even took a 4 hour bus ride to personally meet with the owner of All That Glitters in Ratnapura when this Alex was first brought to our attention.  Our diligent and persistent negotiators finally worked out a deal on the phone with the seller only 2 hours before we were due at the airport to leave the country.  This gemstone was being driven by the runner back to his home about 45 minutes away from Colombo, in the rain and on his motorbike....  He was nearly home and had to turn around and go all the way back to Colombo to deliver the gemstone.  He arrived in soaking wet clothes, but still had a smile on his face because after 8 days we had resolution and a sale.

2.42ct Red Burmese Spinel -  Photo color is not accurate, as it shows a reddish orange.  The color in person is a deep Ruby Red and it is even better under the right lights (incandescent).  It is not overly dark as some of this material can be.  This super gem originates from Burma, and it took a day to negotiate the price so we could put it into our inventory.  It was purchased in Mae Sot, Thailand on the Burma border and was found in Burma.  This Burmese Red Spinal is a beauty.   (kjcl-11-21)

A 2.03ct UNHEATED Pink Sapphire from Sri Lanka.  Have done two photos as the color was difficult to obtain, but the color is really nice with some hints of blue in the high lights depending on the lights available.  Please excuse the lint form the polishing cloth which is on the surface....   (neecb-11-05)   $5,075   <  View Cert  >

A -  1.54ct Pear Shaped Ruby from Mozambique.  Certed as having been heated with insignificant residue, which means that there are some surface
marks that  got filled in with some of the material (borax?) that is used to surround the gemstone when heated.  This is not meant to deceive as glass filling, but just a by product of heating at times if there are any voids, scratches on the surface of the gem when heated.  Not the best photo as we shot it slightly off angle - so the gemstone is properly cut and not skewed as shown in the photo!   (kjcl-11-12)  $5,390  <  View Cert  >

Note the color description - the color description of a Padparadscha.  It was bought as a Pad, but we always sell as a Orangy Sapphire.  It is a rather unique gemstone, in that under diffused daylight, it looks like a smoky pink, and then under incandescent, it is a bright lively reddish orange.  Depending on the lights available, this seems to be a real color changer!)  (egaj-11-37)   $5,280

1.10ct Certed Demantoid Garnet
An over 1 carat Certifed Demantoid.  A Clean, decent cut and of a green tourmaline, possibly yellowish green color Demantoid.  Shows Dispersion under the right lights.  Not a deep green like many of the Russian gems, but this is said to be Russian.  Most likely, it is African.  We are trying to get more information.  The location may not be all that important, but the fact that it is a certified Demantoid is!  This gem does contain Chromium as one would expect of a Demantoid, as it will display red flashes when viewed using a Chelsea Filter!  (bkkol-08-08)  $525
Demantoid Cert  >

0.63ct Round Brilliant Diamond
This wonderfully brilliant yellow diamond is SI or better and has incredible yellow color with a hint of green.  The dispersion is very strong and must be seen.  This diamond comes with a certificate from GIA indicating that the color of this gemstone has been enhanced.  It is a natural diamond, but like some of the pinks, teals, greens, reds, blues, etc. the color has been induced but is stable.  This is a piece that the owner of All ThatGlitters has had in mind for a  mans ring, accented by very white diamonds. The color, cutting, clarity and dispersion, doesn't get better than this!  $2,600  (Just an incredible color, cut, clarity and gemstone!)

RARE - Certified Cuprian Amethyst Purple Mozambique Tourmaline
As indicated previously on the All That Glitters Website, this color from Mozambique
(the cases that we are aware of that have been tested)
has always been found to contain Copper and therefore is Cuprian Tourmaline.

8.91ct Mozambique Purple Tourmaline WITH Copper - CUPRIAN.  RARE Color and this one is CERTED!  (cwgc-10-01)  Call or email for price quote -  our price is approximately 60% of the wholesale price from a well known West Coast Company!

6.47ct Cuprian Mozambique Tourmaline
13.77x9.61x7.17mm Oval Bright Pink Mozambique Tourmaline weighing a whopping 6.47cts and containing Copper.  Therefore, this is a Curpian Tourmaline similar to Paraiba and other bright neony Tourmalines from other localities.   A number of smaller inclusions exist, but does not affect  the brilliance or overall look of this gemstone.  This is also to be expected of pink and red Tourmaline, not to mention Paraiba and the bright colors coming from Mozambique!  Note that this color is a bright pink with maybe a hint of purple, and it does not brown out under incandescent light.  For the most part, the color is consistent under a number of different light sources.   (fgj-07-01)  $1779

Not often seen, here is an unheatd Ruby.  The Winza Ruby coming out of Africa, is one of the few locations  in the world that currently is being mined and 'may' not be heated.  Most corundum (Sapphire and Ruby), is typcially heated as is pretty much 99% of Aquamarine and Tanzanite and many colors of Tourmaline are heated too.  Other countries produce Ruby that may not require heating, but Winza is producing more of this material.  As you can see from the cert, it is described as a purplish red, typical to have some sort of modifier associated with red in Ruby (note the certs from the same lab for our Burmese Rubies!).  Under fluorescent lights, you can see slightly more purple, but under incandescent (which is best for Ruby), it is more of a pure red.

A 2.14ct Fine Deep Red Ruby - photo does not do it justice.  We have found that obtaining accurate colors of Ruby, Alexandrite and a few other gemstones is very difficult.  Where else can you find this size, clarity, polish, sparkle, cutting, etc for under $10,000/ct ?  Just finding the store that carries this quality is difficult, and we only know of two of the big names where you might find something similar...
A well known local appraiser/gemologist and the owner of All That Glitters sat down to discuss a number of fine gemstones in the All That Glitters inventory; this being one of them.  This Ruby POPS under incandescent light and is more subdued under fluorescent, which is what one would expect for Ruby.

Certified as Purplish Red Ruby, this material is from Africa and is certed as having NO evidence of heat, which is quite rare today.  There are many pairs of matched rounds and ovals here.  The average weight is about 32pts each.  Price per carat is $750, therefore an average matched pair would run about $480.  Good matched pairs in Ruby are very difficult to find.  This material is a nice rich red under incandescent lights, well cut, clean, NO Heat and are super all around!  Photographed under fluorescent lights.  (vpng-07-05p)
(The wholesale price from a West Coast company, whose matched pairs are not as well cut as ours and theirs is heated, is over our currently asking price.  Expect retail prices to be approximately double.)

1.07ct Oval Burmese Ruby.  Great piece.  Mostly clean as you can see from the photo.  Color is a great Ruby Red.  Certified - evidence of Heat but no evidence of fillers (which is rare).  This is a fine example of Ruby and one would be hard pressed to find such a Ruby in any stores except those carrying high end fine gemstones.  Color reproduction of red is difficult and we have had difficulty photographing all of our Rubies.  We do guarantee that the color is extremely fine!  (6.58x5.21x3.36mm)  $4,280 (svd-07-05)

A very large Burmese Certed Ruby of Fine Color - 2.02ct!  Color is a great Ruby Red, though the cert indicates a Pink Red.  After seeing some of their color descriptions of Spessartite, Rhodolite and other gemstones certed by this lab, we are not concerted that they used the term Pink!  Certified - evidence of Heat but no evidence of fillers (which is rare).  This is a fine example of Ruby and one would be hard pressed to find such a Ruby in any stores except those carrying high end fine gemstones.  This is a gemstone that we would have offered to Tiffanys and a few other stores, but they are currently not purchasing any material with the name Burma associated with it.  Many gemstones come across the border illegally and by-pass the government.  These gemstones therefore do not put money in to the pockets of a repressive government, but help those individuals who mine the material and are lucky enough to find and sell gemstones such as this.  Color reproduction of red is difficult and we have had difficulty photographing all of our Rubies.  We do guarantee that the color is extremely fine!  (svd-07-02)  $14,140   (7.54X6.28X4.86mm)

The colors of these rubies were very difficult to capture accurately.  They are all a nice deep red without being overly dark.  They do sparkle but have a nice pure crisp red color that just cannot be  photographed well without displaying as too orange or purple.  Red is one of the most difficult colors to get pure without secondary purple, brown, orange, etc.  The colors are better than what is shown above.

This INCREDIBLE 1.73ct Purple Sapphire comes from Ceylon.  It stood out among many hundreds of Rubies that we were looking at.  It was marked as a Ruby and we couldn't convince the dealer  that this label was incorrect, EVEN after we had the gemstone certed as a Sapphire (and another plus of the cert is that it is a Non-Heated gem!).  The color is actually the color of many of the Mozambique Fuschia to Purple Tourmalines that we have been purchasing.  Note that in person, the color is saturated but shows lots of sparkle and scintillation, with the major color being a deep magenta purple.  In 26 years in the gemstone business, we haven't had a little beauty like this.  Under incandescent lights it Dances...and could possibly contain Chromium like Ruby.  (7.29x5.65x4.87mm)

This large Tanzanite has rarely seen the light of day since it's purchase back in about 1990.  It has a certificate from Guild Laboratories in Los Angeles, CA, along with a photograph and with a retail price of $27,000 - that was back in 1991! .
The very fine larger pieces are becoming quite scarce and prices are going up.
We allowed a wholesale dealer to show this off on one trip and he has never had such reactions of - WOW - with any other gemstone he has shown over his many decades of selling gemstones!   No photos can do this item ANY justice! The color glows with life similar to a Kashmir Sapphire.  Other lights will show the color as having purple highlights. (rma-91-02#)  $27,500
