| A
polished piece of Russian Jasper from the Ural Mountains in the center,
surround by two natural mineral borders (white and black) with a hanger
on the back. Unique and work intensive to create because it
is polished natural minerals, the center will never have
two that look similar. These are actually not common and
this
is only the second one that we have had in 26 years. We have
requested more, but as in gemstone rough and faceted gemstones,
just because one requests an item doesn't mean that the material is
available
- at any price. This is a poor photo as there are reflections in
the black border as well as the Jasper. The piece looks far nicer
in person and would look great hanging on a wall or even on a plate
holder on a desk, piece of furniture or curio cabinet. This
measures approximately 4x5 inches. $249 |

mined in
the state of New Hamsphire by a number of people over the past few
decades. The locality is the Ossippe, NH area, which is in the
vicinity of the Lakes Region. The area is known for Smoky Quartz,
but
like most minerals, they are still difficult to find and therefore,
this represents decades of searching and hard work by a few dedicated
mineral collectors. We have faceted some of this material,
tumbled and
have left a few groups untouched so one can appreciate the natural
crystal as found. This is ideal for those who are interested in
gemstones found in the U.S. and specifically for those who
collect

| Spanish Gold Counterweights from
Approximately 1675 |
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
| This unique brass item was found in a shipwreck off the coast of Spain. It dates from about 1675. They were used to determine the weight of an item of gold. It is part of the estate of a well known collector of minerals/gems/antiquities for years. His wife indicated that it was found by someone they knew, off the coast of Spain in a shipwreck. This diver has written a number of articles in the past on diving and shipwrecks. We hope to learn more about this tiem in the near future, but uncertain how much more information we can obtain. Prior to purchase of this unique and historical item, the Assistant Curator of the Harvard Mineralogical Museum viewed the item with the owner of All That Glitters as well as another dealer who had purchased similiar items at auctions held at Harvard in the past. This piece of Spanish Gold History is priced at only: $525 (cmartin-07-01a) |

| 300cts of Ouro Preto Topaz Crystals |
![]() |
| These pieces of topaz came from the
world
famous Topaz area of Brazil - Ouro Preto in the state of Minas Gerias.
This is the locality where the Imperial/Precious Topaz comes from. All
these crystals were hand picked and are naturally doubly terminated.
This make great collector items and are especially very nice when
pendants are made. As is typical of this material, one can
see inclusions which have occurred naturally within these pieces. Had
they been clean, they would have been faceted as the color and locality
will produce very costly gemstones. In 1987, the cost of this
material from Brazil was typically running $8 per gram - therefore,
this material would have cost approximately $480. For a quick
sale, $300! |

| Makah Burl Boxes from Burma |
|
| These
make wondefrful gifts and some people have bought a few dozen to put a
gift in. The box may be kept for dsplay, used for storage
and
whatever you feel fit. Each box is unique. It is made
of natural
wood and because it is a burl, the designs, patterns and even coloring
can differ dramactially from piece to piece. As usual, All That
Glitters went through approximately 50 pieces and choose a few we
felt
were the best of the lot. Whether the box is given as a gift or
with
something special contained within. the Makah box is something to
treasure. We have had these a few years ago and they sold quite fast - mostly to stores and dealers. Attempts to find more of them failed for the past 3 years. Finally, we managed to find a few and only have 4 of the small ones and only 1 medium sized box. Photos above show the boxes closed, as well as opened. The ruler is present for scale. Small Box: $35 Med Box $60 |

Faceted Glass with unusual, currently
unknown
inclusion! |
|
| This
faceted item was faceted from a piece
of what was said to be Natural Volcanic Glass from Africa. The
original owner, who is an American Gemstone Dealer in Africa, has only
seen chunks of this material twice in about 30 years. His
impression was this was natural. This faceted piece was sent to
John Koivula, formerly of GIA and now employed by AGTA. John has
written a book of gemstone inclusions and is currently working on
another edition. John examined this piece and believes that it is
man-made glass. The inclusions in the rough are really unique and
we are considering faceting more of this material and attempting to
place the inclusion under the table in the center of the piece.
This piece is currently in the GIA Laboratory for anaylsis.
Regardless of whether it is natural or not, it certainly is
interesting. Note that if natural, the price of this material
will increase dramatically and we do have limited rough. Examples of this material were sent to a person known for his expertise on glasses. He was not able to identify the inclusion, how it was made, etc. It certainly had him intrigued. We only have this one piece. It is extremely interesting, has a great cut and polish, as one of our local cutters faceted it. This material seems to show dispersion under the right lights also. A must have for those who like the unusual and explanable! $499 |

Synthetic Russian Ametrine!
|
| A unique Russian
Synthetic Ametrine is
also available. We have seen photographs of slices of this
material in magazines such as GIA's Gems and Gemology Magazine, but we
have not seen an actual crystal. Very interesting for a cutter or
a collector of Russian's advanced lab grown synthetic
experiments. It measures approximately 7 inches by 2.75 inches
across. Our scales cannot weigh this crystal because it is sooo
heavy but we can tell you that it weighs over 1000ct! $1000 for
this wonderful specimen - this is far less than $1.00 per carat... |

What is Fordite??
This is something you will
not
find
in your mineral or gemstone book. This is actually from the Ford
Automobile Company of Michigan. The spray paint from painting
vechicles would build up on the walls over time and had to be scraped
off. If one fashioned this material like a cabachon, one could
see the different layers of paint that had been used to produce the
cars. This material is said to have come from the 1960's
timeframe. One can look at the layers and see what color cars
were being produced. Some people might even be able to find the
color of a car they had in the past. Our family had a 1968 Ford
Galaxie of a metallic green. If one looks closely at this
material, one can actually seen these pieces glisten as there are many
areas of metallic paint layers in the more brightly colored pieces.
Some of these pieces have holes drilled through the sides, so the
pieces can be fashioned into jewelry, necklaces, etc. This is
just incredible material with real American History! One can look
into American's Past and Passion of Cars. This is something to
own as a piece of jewelry or just a piece of Americana. It is so
beautiful, we could not pass up this
material,
plus it is a part of our American History!
Note - all the above pieces have been drilled and therefore can be made into a pendant , necklace, etc. The top photo shows one side; the bottom photo shows the reverse side! |

Copal with Insects!! - Madagascar
|
|
Copal - the precursor of Amber, "fossilized tree resin, more recent in origin than amber" - as quoted by the Gem Reference Guide (Gemological Institute of America), and the availability is listed as "Scarce". Not only is this material considered to be scarce, this specimen contains insects and would be even more rare. These specimesn from Madagascar would eventually become amber with time. There are lots of well preserved insects within one of these specimens. The other 3 have essentially one large insect. With the naked eye, loupe, microscope, etc. one can spend many hours looking at these preserved creatures! The compound eyes can clearly be seen as well as hair on their bodies; they are very intact and extremely interesting. The price of this material has gone up over the years, but we still got a wonderful buy on these and can pass this over to our customers as we normally do! $285 SOLD! (Retail Store) |

Had they been clean, they would have been faceted as the color and locality will produce very costly gemstones. This crystal is naturally terminated

unique), we feel this would be a wonderful collectors piece for those

| Natural Quartz Clusters - Minas Gerais, Brazil | |
|
|
|
|
| These natural quartz clusters originated in the famous state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. This area is known for producing most of the gemstones and crystals that come from Brazil. Each cluster has been chosen individually from a large lot, bubble wrapped and shipped from Brazil to the United States. There are approximately 125 pieces in total with most never having been unwrapped since their arrival at our office back in 1987. They have been crated and stored in a warehouse for those years. Four pieces have been photographed. A dime has been used to indicate size. We have seen similar items with a retail vaule of approximately $60 each many years ago (mid-1980s). These make great paperweights, gifts or just as an addition to an existing collection or perhaps even the beginning of a new collection. | |
